Patient/caregiver was instructed upon therapeutic uses of Sarafem as follows:

Major depression

• Sarafem, by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, enhances the actions of free serotonin in the body.
• This helps with improved communication, appropriate desired nerve stimulation, thus contributing to controlling symptoms of depression.

Bipolar disorder

• Sarafem can be used along with antipsychotics, such as, clozapine and olanzapine, for management of symptoms during the depressive phase of bipolar disorder.
