Patient was educated on mechanism of action of Robaxin as follows:

  1. Damage to the muscles from injury and sprain can disrupt the nerve messages being conducted. This can cause some overactivity of muscles and sudden unexpected involuntary muscle contractions, called spasms.
  2. These sudden spasms can lead to poor coordination between the muscles and consequent complications.
  3. Robaxin is a muscle relaxant, used to relieve muscle spasms caused by injury and sprain, and promote muscle relaxation.
  4. Mechanism of robaxin action is not clear. Robaxin is thought to work by depressing the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system).
  5. Depressing the central nervous system by robaxin leads to inhibition of nerve impulses from the central nervous system to the skeletal muscle. This contributes to inhibition of involuntary muscle contractions and relief of muscle spasms, leading to relief from pain and discomfort.
  6. Depressing the brain and spinal cord also leads to some sedation and dizziness, which also contributes to relief from pain and discomfort.
