Patient/caregiver was educated on the precautions to be observed while taking Rivaroxaban as follows:
- Do not consume alcohol, while you are taking Rivaroxaban, as alcohol can increase the effects of blood thinner and consequently, make the blood extra thin, thus resulting episodes of hemorrhage and bleeding.
- Rivaroxaban should be avoided in individuals taking NSAIDs and other blood thinners. Taking Rivaroxaban along with NSAIDs or other blood thinners concurrently can significantly increase the risk for bleeding episode.
- Maintain a close watch for symptoms of hypotension, such as, confusion and dizziness along with symptoms of anemia, such as, pale skin, exacerbation of shortness of breath, poor endurance, and fatigue. These symptoms in individuals taking Rivaroxaban could be secondary to an undiagnosed internal bleed with loss of blood and should be immediately reported.
- Maintain strict compliance with intake of Rivaroxaban as ordered, with regards to dosage and frequency, to derive the benefit of the medication. Noncompliance with this recommendation can result in episodes of bleeding or clot formation. So, do not change your dose of Rivaroxaban, without your doctor’s recommendation.
