Patient was educated that risk factors for hypoxia include various conditions that can set grounds for onset of hypoxic symptoms. Some of the conditions leading to hypoxia are as follows:
- Ischemia
- This condition usually results in localized hypoxia.
- This arises when blood supply to any tissue is affected, such as, peripheral vascular disease affecting blood supply to the extremities or any blood clot obstructing blood flow to the brain, or coronary artery disease obstructing blood flow to the heart.
- Hypoxia can occur from various conditions affecting the airways, such as, asthma and COPD, compromising conduction of air along the airways.
- Hypoxia can occur from various conditions affecting the lung, such as, pulmonary edema and pneumonia, with excessive fluid and infective secretions accumulating inside the lung and affecting the transfer of oxygen at the alveoli.
- Since the causes for hypoxia are different, management measures also will be accordingly.
