Patient/caregiver was educated on signs and symptoms of atopic dermatitis as follows:
- Atopic dermatitis is self-limited, with the itching continuing for two to four weeks, until the blisters stop oozing and sore skin stops itching.
- As the condition is genetically determined, atopic dermatitis cannot be cured, and measures can only be taken to prevent activation of an episode and ease symptoms during a flare-up.
- In individuals with history of atopic dermatitis, avoiding exposure to the trigger can help best to prevent the activation of a new episode.
- Chronic recurrent activation of atopic dermatitis episodes from repeated exposure to the triggers can leave the skin swollen from inflammation and extremely dry, cracked, and scaly.
