Patient/caregiver was educated on signs and symptoms of atopic dermatitis as follows:

  1. Atopic dermatitis is self-limited, with the itching continuing for two to four weeks, until the blisters stop oozing and sore skin stops itching.
  2. As the condition is genetically determined, atopic dermatitis cannot be cured, and measures can only be taken to prevent activation of an episode and ease symptoms during a flare-up.
  3. In individuals with history of atopic dermatitis, avoiding exposure to the trigger can help best to prevent the activation of a new episode.
  4. Chronic recurrent activation of atopic dermatitis episodes from repeated exposure to the triggers can leave the skin swollen from inflammation and extremely dry, cracked, and scaly.
