Patient was educated on the recovery process after coronary artery bypass grafting as follows:

  1. Limitations on your physical activity will continue and you will need at least 2 – 3 months of time to return to usual daily activities.
  2. It is normal to have swelling of your arm or leg, where graft was taken from. Watch for any signs and symptoms of infection at this site. Also, have the arm or leg elevated, from which graft was taken, to contain the swelling.
  3. Have a caregiver around you always, to help you with your activities of daily living.
  4. Watch closely for any symptoms of chest pain and shortness of breath that you had before surgery. If they continue or recur, please notify that to your doctor.
  5. Try to have planned activity scheduled, as recommended by the therapist and as your endurance permits.
  6. Try not to overdo on activity levels, as recovery is a slow process.
