Patient/caregiver was educated on risk factors and triggers for psoriasis activation as follows:
- Familial predisposition: Psoriasis is a condition that can occur in families, with a parent, sibling, or other close relative affected by the same condition.
- Altered immune system: Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune skin condition, in which body’s own protective immune system becomes defective and damages the skin cells. Individuals with history of autoimmune diseases, such as, Type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease, can be increasingly at risk for presentation with psoriasis.
- Stress: Any stressful conditions can influence, alter, and contribute to malfunctioning of the body’s immune system.
