Patient/caregiver was educated on signs and symptoms of psoriasis as follows:

  1. The excessive volume of skin cells occurs in patches on various body parts resulting in areas of inflammatory red and raised plaques that can be itchy and intensely sore.
  2. Quickening of the life cycle of cells results in early death of cells, by the time the skin cells reach the surface, resulting in dry, silvery white scales covering the red plaques. The dry superficial skin can get cracked resulting in areas of bleeding.
  3. Involvement of the scalp can result in localized areas of hair loss with intense scaling and itching.
  4. Psoriasis can involve joints such as, fingers, toes, ankle, elbow, knee, and spine. Joint involvement with psoriasis can result in swollen joints, with pain and stiffness of the affected joints. Involvement of finger and toenails can result in yellow discolored and pitted nails, with thickening and ridging.
