Patient was educated on the properties of insulin as follows:
- The standard and most commonly used strength around the world today is U-100, which means it has 100 units of insulin per milliliter of fluid.
- U-500 insulin, which means 500 units of insulin per milliliter of fluid, is also available for patients who are extremely insulin resistant.
- All insulins have 3 basic characteristics:
- Onset: It is the length of time before insulin reaches the bloodstream and begins lowering blood glucose, after the shot was administered.
- Peak: It is the duration of time during which insulin is at maximum strength, in terms of effectiveness in lowering the blood glucose.
- Duration: It is the total length of time during which the insulin continues to exert the action of lowering blood glucose.
