Patient/caregiver was instructed upon therapeutic uses of promethazine as follows:
Motion sickness
- Individuals with history of motion sickness can present with increased nausea and vomiting sensations.
- Promethazine use helps with preventing and controlling the excessive nausea and vomiting sensations and offers relief from symptoms of motion sickness.
Nausea and vomiting of surgeries
- Anesthesia and surgical procedures can induce some nausea and vomiting, thus leading to complications such as aspiration.
- Promethazine use can reduce the nausea and vomiting associated with anesthesia and surgical procedures, thus reducing risk for aspiration.
- Promethazine use can reduce the nausea and vomiting during the post-surgical period, thus reducing the discomfort during the recovery phase.
Sedation and relaxation
- Promethazine use can help allay fear and anxiety before any medical and surgical procedures and promote sleep and relaxation, both before and after the procedure.
- Promethazine, by promoting sleep and relaxation, also help with contributing to the pain relief by pain killers.
