Patient was educated on priming an inhaler as follows:
- When a new canister of inhaler is being used, the canister may not deliver the correct amount of medication with the initial actuation of the inhaler.
- So, priming of the canister should be done, to make the inhaler ready for use.
- Insert the canister firmly into the mouthpiece.
- Take the cap off the mouthpiece and shake the inhaler well for 5 seconds.
- Hold the inhaler at an arm distance, away from your face and press on the canister to release the medication into the air for two times.
- Improper medication delivery happens to be an issue even with old canisters that have not been used for more than a week or two. Priming of such canisters also helps proper release of medication on actuation.
