Patient/caregiver was educated on the precautions to be observed while taking prednisone as follows:

  1. Take prednisone dose at the same time, every day, to avoid forgetting the intake of medication.
  2. Patients can sometimes present with nausea and vomiting, secondary to prednisone intake on empty stomach. Taking the prednisone dose with some food or snack can counter these unpleasant gastrointestinal side-effects.
  3. Maintain strict compliance with intake of the medication as ordered, with regards to dosage and frequency, to derive the benefit of the medication.
  4. Do not change the dose on this medication without consulting your doctor.
  5. Prednisone is mainly metabolized in the liver and excreted in urine by the kidneys. If liver and kidney functions are deficient, metabolism and excretion of prednisone could be slowed down, leading to compromised therapeutic benefit, increased risk for side-effects and toxicity with the medication. Observe compliance with any regular labs ordered for evaluation of liver and kidney functions.
