Patient was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Naproxen as follows:

  1. Naproxen has the potential to compromise coronary circulation and result in chest pain and myocardial infarction. So, Naproxen must be avoided or used cautiously in individuals with history of myocardial infarction. Naproxen must also be avoided during immediate post-surgical period, in individuals who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
  2. Naproxen must be avoided or used cautiously in individuals with history of exacerbation of SOB with episodes of asthma and growth of nasal polyps with other NSAIDs. Naproxen, in some individuals, is known to evoke similar response. Discuss with your physician about any such history and your safety with Naproxen. Report any exacerbation of shortness of breath to your physician immediately.
  3. Observe compliance with any regular lab work ordered. As Naproxen is metabolized by the liver and carries the risk for damage to the liver, hepatic function could be periodically monitored, to prevent risk for toxicity. Watch closely to report any symptoms of itching, jaundice with yellowing of skin and sclera, dark urine, altered metabolism with nausea and vomiting, pain in the right upper abdominal quadrant, and fatigue suggesting damage to the liver.
  4. Do not change the dose on Naproxen without consulting your doctor.
