Patient was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Naproxen as follows:
- Naproxen must be avoided or used cautiously in individuals with history heart failure. Reduced renal function, secondary to Naproxen intake, can contribute towards compromise in filtration of blood, leading to reduced formation of urine and fluid back up in the body. Fluid accumulation in the body can result in edema and weight gain. This backed up fluid can increase the fluid volume and workload on the heart that is already in failure, thus further worsening the cardiac function. Maintain a close watch for symptoms of worsening fluid retention, such as, edema, exacerbation of shortness of breath, and increased fatigue and report them to your physician.
- Naproxen must be avoided or used cautiously in individuals with history of hypertension. Reduced renal function, secondary to Naproxen intake, can contribute towards compromise in filtration of blood, leading to reduced formation of urine and fluid back up in the body. Backed up fluid in the circulation can increase the fluid volume and lead to increase in the blood pressure. Maintain a close watch on everyday blood pressure readings. Maintaining a log of the blood pressure readings can help for a comparative feedback.
- Maintain a close watch on the volume of urine flow at every void, and add up all the volumes for the day, to obtain 24-hour volume. Report to the physician at the notice of any unusual drop in the urine volume.
- Try practicing alternative pain management measures, such as, deep breathing and relaxation and visual imagery, to be able to cut down on pain medication and avoid the long-term side effects of pain medications.
