Patient was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Meloxicam as follows:

  1. Meloxicam must be avoided or used cautiously in individuals with history heart failure. Reduced renal function, secondary to Meloxicam intake, can contribute towards compromise in filtration of blood, leading to reduced formation of urine and fluid back up in the body. Fluid accumulation in the body can result in edema and weight gain. This backed up fluid can increase the fluid volume and workload on the heart that is already in failure, thus further worsening the cardiac function. Maintain a close watch for symptoms of worsening fluid retention, such as, edema, exacerbation of shortness of breath, and increased fatigue and report them to your physician.
  2. Maintain a close watch on the volume of urine flow at every void, and add up all the volumes for the day, to obtain 24-hour volume. Report to the physician at the notice of any unusual drop in the urine volume.
  3. Maintain strict compliance with intake of Meloxicam as ordered, with regards to dosage and frequency, to derive the benefit of the medication. The dose and length of treatment depends upon the medical condition, severity of pain, and response to treatment.
  4. If you miss a dose, try taking it at the earliest notice of noncompliance. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the dose scheduled. Do not take an extra dose to try making up for the missed dose. Notify your doctor and other health care personnel regarding your dose noncompliance.
