Patient was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Flagyl as follows:
- Watch for symptoms of worsening peripheral neuropathy, such as, increasing pain and numbness, tingling, and burning sensations in the extremities. Report such findings to your doctor immediately for a change in infection control plan to be considered. Flagyl should be discontinued and report to the physician for any occurrences of seizures.
- Flagyl should be used with extreme caution in individuals taking blood thinners like Warfarin. Flagyl enhances the therapeutic effects of Warfarin and increases the thinning, making the individual prone for bleeding diathesis and internal hemorrhages.
- Complete the course of the antibiotic that it was prescribed for. Do not give up on the antibiotic, against your doctor’s recommendation, even if the symptoms of infection are controlled.
- Do not change the dose on Flagyl without consulting your doctor.
- Watch out for any continuing or worsening signs and symptoms of infection, to report to your doctor immediately, so that, a change in plan could be considered.
