Patient was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Diclofenac Sodium as follows:
- Maintain strict compliance with intake of Diclofenac Sodium as ordered, with regards to dosage and frequency, to derive the benefit of the medication. The dose and length of treatment depends upon the medical condition, severity of pain, and response to treatment.
- Evenly space out the doses of Diclofenac Sodium and take the dose at the scheduled time every day. Keeping to the schedule helps to avoid forgetting the medication.
- Diclofenac Sodium has the potential to compromise coronary circulation and result in chest pain and myocardial infarction. So, Diclofenac Sodium must be avoided or used cautiously in individuals with history of myocardial infarction. Diclofenac Sodium must also be avoided during immediate post-surgical period, in individuals who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
- Diclofenac Sodium is significantly excreted in the bile and urine. Individuals with biliary obstructions and compromised renal functions tend to retain the drug in the circulation longer, thus resulting in toxicity. Diclofenac Sodium should be avoided or used with extreme caution in such individuals. Any symptoms of renal injury and altered kidney function, such as, altered levels of consciousness and reduced urine formation, should be closely watched for and reported to the physician. Discuss with your physician regarding your history of biliary stasis and obstruction, if any and your safety with using Diclofenac Sodium.
