Patient was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Diclofenac Sodium as follows:
- Diclofenac Sodium must be used cautiously in individuals with history of gastric ulcers, as intake of this medication can lead to increased exposure of the stomach lining to the action of gastric acid, leading to erosion of gastric mucosa and development of gastric ulcers. This response to Diclofenac Sodium can significantly increase, if it is taken with alcohol and smoking. Avoid taking Diclofenac Sodium with alcohol. Quit smoking while you are using Diclofenac Sodium. Using enteric coated Diclofenac Sodium can help this situation. Maintain close watch for symptoms of abdominal pain and bleeding in the stool. This bleed in the stomach can also undergo partial digestion, when the color of the blood in stool can appear black. Report these symptoms to the physician immediately.
- Maintain a close watch on the volume of urine flow at every void, and add up all the volumes for the day, to obtain 24-hour volume. Report to the physician at the notice of any unusual drop in the urine volume.
- Diclofenac Sodium intake can result in photosensitivity and skin rash with blister formation. Avoid bright sunlight and tan parlors, while you are taking Diclofenac Sodium. Using a sunscreen can prevent the risk for photosensitivity.
- Do not share your pain pills with any family and friends.
