Patient was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Advil as follows:
- Advil must be avoided or used cautiously in individuals with history of hypertension. Reduced renal function, secondary to Advil intake, can contribute towards compromise in filtration of blood, leading to reduced formation of urine and fluid back up in the body. Backed up fluid in the circulation can increase the fluid volume and lead to increase in the blood pressure. Maintain a close watch on everyday blood pressure readings. Maintaining a log of the blood pressure readings can help for a comparative feedback.
- Advil has the potential to compromise coronary circulation and result in chest pain and myocardial infarction. So, Advil must be avoided or used cautiously in individuals with history of myocardial infarction. Advil must also be avoided during immediate post-surgical period, in individuals who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
- Advil must be avoided or used cautiously in individuals with history of exacerbation of SOB with episodes of asthma and growth of nasal polyps with other NSAIDs. Advil, in some individuals, is known to evoke similar response. Discuss with your physician about any such history and your safety with Advil. Report any exacerbation of shortness of breath to your physician immediately.
- Advil intake can result in photosensitivity and skin rash with blister formation. Avoid bright sunlight and tan parlors, while you are taking Advil. Using a sunscreen can prevent the risk for photosensitivity.
