Patient was educated on precautions to be exercised while using steroid inhalers as follows:

  1. Gargle and rinse the mouth with water after every dose of steroid inhalation. Spit out this water after rinsing and do not swallow. This helps prevent opportunistic candida infection in the oral cavity.
  2. Diabetics using steroid inhalations should keep a close watch on everyday blood sugar readings. Poor blood sugar control can result from steroid use and should be reported to the physician, so that, a change in plan could be made accordingly.
  3. Hypertensive patients using steroid inhalations should keep a close watch on everyday blood pressure readings. Steroid use can result in fluid retention, elevated blood pressures, edema, and acute weight gain. Elevated blood pressure readings and symptoms of fluid retention should be reported to the physician for further investigation, so that, a change in plan could be made accordingly.
