Patient was educated on precautions to be exercised while using NSAIDs as follows:
- NSAIDs must be avoided or used cautiously in individuals with history of hypertension. Reduced renal function, secondary to NSAIDs intake, can contribute towards compromise in filtration of blood, leading to reduced formation of urine and fluid back up in the body. Backed up fluid in the circulation can increase the fluid volume and lead to increase in the blood pressure. Maintain a close watch on everyday blood pressure readings. Maintaining a log of the blood pressure readings can help for a comparative feedback.
- NSAIDs have the potential to compromise coronary circulation and result in chest pain and myocardial infarction. So, NSAIDs must be avoided or used cautiously in individuals with history of myocardial infarction. NSAIDs must also be avoided during immediate post-surgical period, in individuals who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
- NSAIDs must be avoided or used cautiously in individuals with history of exacerbation of SOB with episodes of asthma and growth of nasal polyps with intake of any pain medications. Discuss with your physician about any such history and your safety with NSAIDs. Report any exacerbation of shortness of breath to your physician immediately.
- Maintain a close watch on the volume of urine flow at every void, and add up all the volumes for the day, to obtain 24-hour volume. Report to the physician at the notice of any unusual drop in the urine volume.
- NSAIDs intake can result in photosensitivity and skin rash with blister formation. Avoid bright sunlight and tan parlors, while you are taking NSAIDs. Using a sunscreen can prevent the risk for photosensitivity.
