Patient was educated on pneumonia as follows:
- Pneumonia is an infection in one or both lungs.
- Pneumonia can be caused by bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
- Pneumonia causes inflammation of the alveoli in the lung, resulting in the alveoli filling up with inflammatory secretions, thus causing difficulty in gas exchange at the alveoli.
- Symptoms of pneumonia widely vary, depending on the type of organism causing the infection, the patient’s age, and overall immune status.
- Bacterial organisms usually cause very severe symptoms of pneumonia.
- Young children, senior citizens, and patients with AIDS are very vulnerable to the infection, as the overall immune status is compromised in people belonging to these groups.
