Patient was educated on pneumonia as follows:

  1. Pneumonia is an infection in one or both lungs.
  2. Pneumonia can be caused by bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
  3. Pneumonia causes inflammation of the alveoli in the lung, resulting in the alveoli filling up with inflammatory secretions, thus causing difficulty in gas exchange at the alveoli.
  4. Symptoms of pneumonia widely vary, depending on the type of organism causing the infection, the patient’s age, and overall immune status.
  5. Bacterial organisms usually cause very severe symptoms of pneumonia.
  6. Young children, senior citizens, and patients with AIDS are very vulnerable to the infection, as the overall immune status is compromised in people belonging to these groups.
