Patient was educated on peptic ulcer as follows:
- Peptic ulcer is an open ulceration of either the stomach or first part of small intestine, duodenum.
- Ulceration is secondary to a break in the mucosa, which is the inner lining of the stomach and intestines.
- The ulceration extends deep into the tissue of the stomach and intestines and results in strong inflammation, giving rise to the pain, bleeding, and burning sensation, characteristic of the peptic ulcer.
- The acid secretion in the stomach is the chief cause of peptic ulcer formation.
- The acidity damages the inner lining mucosa and results in patchy open erosion of the mucosal surface, giving rise to peptic ulcers.
- Peptic ulcers in the stomach are called gastric ulcers and those in the duodenum are called duodenal ulcers.
