Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking primidone as follows:
- Primidone intake can result in vertigo, with continuous reeling or spinning sensation of self and surroundings, which can increase the fall risk. In individuals with history of vertigo, primidone carries the risk of a steep exacerbation in symptoms of vertigo, thus significantly increasing the fall risk. Sudden changes in position can worsen the vertigo and so, must be avoided. Observing compliance with use of recommended DME can help with preventing a fall or accident. Seek for increased caregiver assistance, until you get comfortable and the side-effects caused by primidone settle. If the spinning sensation and vertigo become uncontrollable and bothersome, report it to your physician and other health care personnel, for any change in plan of care to be considered. Stay away from activities, such as, driving and operating heavy machinery, until you are used to the side effects caused by primidone intake.
- Take this medication as ordered by your physician. Do not change the dose and frequency on this medication without consulting your doctor. Take the medication dose for the duration prescribed without fail.
- Take the medication dose at the same time, every day, to avoid forgetting the intake of medication. Taking the medication at regularly spaced intervals help maintain appropriate blood levels of primidone needed for control of seizures.
