Patient/caregiver was educated on the side-effects of using Primidone as follows:

Central nervous system side-effects

  1. Primidone can depress the brain and induce severe dizziness and sleep. Starting the medication at a low dose, watching for the response, and gradually changing the dose, to help optimum control of your symptoms, can contribute to controlling/reducing the risk for drowsiness and dizziness due to the medication.
  2. Primidone intake can result in vertigo, with continuous reeling or spinning sensation of self and surroundings, which can steeply increase the fall risk. If the spinning sensation and vertigo become uncontrollable and bothersome, report it to your physician and other health care personnel, for any change in plan of care to be considered. Sudden changes in position can worsen the vertigo and so, must be avoided. Observing compliance with use of recommended DME can help with preventing a fall or accident.
  3. Primidone use carries risk of deterioration of mood disorders and worsening of clinical symptoms of mood disorders. Individuals can present with complaints such as, feeling low and depressed, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, reduced sexual interest and performance, gross appetite changes, impulsiveness, agitation, aggression, and suicidal thoughts. Notify your physician regarding any such worsening mood changes, so that, your dosage on the medication could be revised.
