Patient/caregiver was educated on measures to plan for high fiber diet recommendation as follows:

  1. Choose to have bread, pasta, and pizza made of whole wheat against white bread, to improve the fiber content of the meal. While having rice, choose to have brown rice against refined white & polished rice.
  2. Incorporate more nuts & seeds, such as, walnuts, pecans, almonds, chia seeds, flax seeds, and sesame seeds into your diet plan, as they are a good source of fiber, protein, and healthy fats. Try eating them raw or roasted and avoid the flavored or salted varieties, as they carry unhealthy & unwanted calories.
  3. Plain yogurt can be a good snack but is very low on fiber content. While having plain yogurt for snack or dessert, you can add some fresh fruit, such as, pear, apple, plum, or a peach, to improve the fiber content of your snack. While adding fruit, you can choose to add the whole fruit with skin on, as the skin is rich in fiber content.
  4. Choose to have some dried fruits on your daily diet plan. Having prunes, apricots, dates, and figs can be a healthy snack and help improve fiber intake.
  5. If the meal lacks enough fiber, you can also choose to add 2 tablespoonsful of whole wheat bran to it, to improve the fiber intake.
