Patient/caregiver was educated on measures to manage and prevent eczema as follows:

  1. Regular vacuuming of all floor and furniture surfaces using efficient air filters can help effective elimination of dust mites and mold. As dust mites and mold can easily settle on carpets and lead to flare-up of allergies and eczema, in households with severe cases of eczema, replacing the carpet in the house with wood floor, tiles, or vinyl floor can be a better plan.
  2. Individuals with history of eczema and allergies must avoid having any pets indoor, as pet hair, dander, saliva, and urine are significant triggers that can stimulate flare-up of allergic condition.
  3. Wash all bedsheets, blankets, and pillow covers weekly in hot water and dry them thoroughly in a drier, which helps eliminate the dust mites and prevents flare-up of eczema.
  4. Dispose of all unused clothes, unused footwear, weekly mail, daily newspaper, and magazines regularly. Preventing accumulation of clutter can help avoid exposure to dust mites and prevent eczema activation.
  5. Chronic uncontrolled stress can be an important trigger for eczema activation. Observe compliance with daily recommended physical activity and quality sleep hours. Balancing activity and resting hours can play an important role in stress management. Appropriate control and management of stress can help prevent eczema activation. Also, observe compliance with relaxation measures, such as, yoga, meditation, and massage to help stress control.
