Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Remeron as follows:

  1. Remeron can induce extreme dry mouth and constipation. Sucking on a sugar free hard candy can help with symptomatic relief of dry mouth. Proper hydration measures and compliance with daily fluid intake recommendations can help with relief from constipation. If you experience any further bothersome constipation, report it to your physician for a recommendation on laxative/stool softener use.
  2. Remeron interacts with a lot of other medications, thus compromising the beneficial effects and resulting in many cross reactions and side-effects. If you are being newly started on Remeron, discuss with your physician regarding all your current medications and their safety with Remeron. Also, notify your physician regarding any current Remeron intake, if you are being started on any new medications and discuss their safety with Remeron.
  3. Patients with history of mood disorders, secondary to Remeron intake, can experience deterioration and worsening of symptoms of mood disorders. Individuals can present with worsening complaints such as, feeling low and depressed, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, gross appetite changes, impulsiveness, agitation, aggression, and suicidal thoughts. Notify your physician regarding any such worsening mood changes, so that, your dosage on the medication could be revised.
  4. Take this medication as ordered by your physician. Do not change the dose and frequency on this medication without consulting your doctor. Take the medication dose for the duration prescribed without fail.
