Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while using Rivastigmine patch as follows:
- Rivastigmine patch use can result in contraction of bronchial smooth muscle. Caution must be observed, especially in individuals with history of asthma and COPD, to prevent any exacerbation of the respiratory conditions. Individuals can present with progressively compromised endurance, increasing shortness of breath, and emergency situations, secondary to exacerbation of breathing difficulty. Observing compliance with use of prescribed inhaler and nebulizer medications, if any, can help prevent exacerbation of shortness of breath. Individuals with recommendation for oxygen use must oberve strict compliance with the recommendation made, while using Rivastigmine patch. Report to your physician and other home health personnel immediately regarding any episodes of acute exacerbation of shortness of breath, following use of Rivastigmine patch, for an appropriate change in your plan of care to be considered.
- Rivastigmine patch use can result in lowering of seizure threshold and precipitation of seizure activity, especially in individuals with history of seizures. Observing absolute compliance with use of prescribed antiseizure medications, if any, can help prevent any fresh episodes or relapse of seizures. Observing compliance with other recommended safety measures can help prevent falls, injuries, and accidents. Report to your physician and other home health personnel immediately regarding any new or relapse of seizure episodes, following use of Rivastigmine patch, for an appropriate change in your plan of care to be considered.
