Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while using Rivastigmine patch as follows:

  1. Rivastigmine patch use can result in increased motility of the gut, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. These effects can be self-limiting and resolve in due course of time. Proper hydration measures and compliance with fluid resuscitation recommendations can help with preventing fluid volume loss. If you experience any further bothersome diarrhea following use of the patch, report it to your physician for further recommendations.
  2. Rivastigmine patch use can result in increased acid production with burning sensation in the stomach, and promotion of GERD. Individuals with history of peptic ulcers and GERD can be at increased risk for exacerbation of the conditions, following use of the Rivastigmine patch. Compliance with use of antacids prescribed, if any, and other GERD management measures can help provide relief. If you experience any further unpleasant gastrointestinal symptoms, report it to your physician for further recommendations.
  3. If the patch falls off before it is due for change, discard the patch appropriately, as instructed, and apply a new patch. Keep to your regular time of changing the patch for the next day, to avoid any disturbance in the schedule.
