Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while using Rivastigmine patch as follows:
- Use the patch as ordered by your physician. Do not change the dose and frequency of using this patch without consulting your doctor. Use the Rivastigmine patch for the duration prescribed without fail.
- Do not forget to remove the old patch before applying the new one. This helps to avoid forgetting the removal of old patch and consequent overdose with medication. Fold the old patch into half, with sticky sides together, before discarding it, to keep it out of reach with other household members.
- Choose a clean, dry, and hairless portion of skin on the upper back, upper arm, or chest for application of the new Rivastigmine patch. Presence of hair and moisture can interfere with absorption of the medication through the skin and consequently compromise the therapeutic benefits of the medication. You can shower with the patch still on.
