Patient/caregiver was educated on contraindications for using Aricept as follows:

  1. Do not take Aricept with alcohol or opioid pain medications, such as, hydrocodone and codeine, as these products can compound the drowsiness Aricept can cause, thus compromising safety and potentiating a serious risk for accidents and falls. A number of OTC cough medications and antihistamines, muscle relaxant medications, antidepressant medications, antipsychotics, and antianxiety medications, can potentiate the dizziness and confusion caused by Aricept and so, must be avoided taking along with Aricept.
  2. In the event of any current manifestations of any allergic response with this medication, report it to your physician or other health care personnel immediately, to check regarding your safety with continuing on intake of this medication.
  3. Do not take Aricept, if you ever manifested any allergic response to intake of Aricept. Discuss your history of allergic response to this medication with your physician, without fail.
