Patient/caregiver was educated on contraindications for using Memantine as follows:
- Do not take Memantine, if you ever manifested any allergic response to intake of Memantine. Discuss your history of allergic response to this medication with your physician, without fail.
- In the event of any current manifestations of any allergic response with this medication, report it to your physician or other health care personnel immediately, to check regarding your safety with continuing on intake of this medication.
- Memantine use can result in irritation of the bladder, increased frequency of urination, deteriorating incontinence, increased episodes of bed-wetting, and can potentiate risk for development of UTI. Individuals can present with symptoms of UTI, such as, symptoms of UTI, such as, fever, sudden development of altered consciousness, increased frequency, urgency, burning sensation during urination, and foul smelling urine. Memantine should be used with extreme caution in individuals with history of UTIs, to prevent risk for developing one.
