Patient/caregiver was educated on contraindications for using Donepezil as follows:
- In the event of any current manifestations of any allergic response with this medication, report it to your physician or other health care personnel immediately, to check regarding your safety with continuing on intake of this medication.
- Do not take donepezil with alcohol or opioid pain medications, such as, hydrocodone and codeine, as these products can compound the drowsiness donepezil can cause, thus compromising safety and potentiating a serious risk for accidents and falls. A number of OTC cough medications and antihistamines, muscle relaxant medications, antidepressant medications, antipsychotics, and antianxiety medications, can potentiate the dizziness and confusion caused by donepezil and so, must be avoided taking along with donepezil.
- Donepezil can interact with many antidepressants and antipsychotic medications, resulting in nervousness, confusion, mood changes, and development or aggravation of underlying cardiac arrhythmias, leading to debility and sudden cardiac death. Avoid using donepezil together with antidepressant and antipsychotic medications.
- Do not take Donepezil, if you ever manifested any allergic response to intake of Donepezil. Discuss your history of allergic response to this medication with your physician, without fail.
