Side Effects of Salmeterol Use

Patient was educated on the side effects of using Salmeterol as follows: Patients taking Salmeterol can sometimes present with worsening of asthmatic symptoms, with increasing wheezing, increased frequency of exacerbation of shortness of breath, reducing endurance, and feeling tiresome. Any worsening of asthmatic symptoms must be reported immediately. Stimulation of Beta-2 receptors in the vascular smooth muscle by Salmeterol can result in relaxation of the smooth muscle of the blood vessels, leading to reduced BP. [...]

Patient was educated on Salmeterol and its mechanism of action as follows: Salmeterol is a long-acting agonist at Beta-2 receptors mainly located in the bronchial smooth muscle of respiratory tract and smooth muscle of blood vessels.
