Patient/caregiver was instructed upon therapeutic uses of olanzapine as follows:
Schizophrenia
- Olanzapine can be used for controlling the hallucination, delusions, lack of concentration, and apathy, associated with schizophrenia.
Psychosis
- Olanzapine helps with controlling the racing thoughts associated with the psychotic states and thus, helps with controlling the unrealistic fears and illogical thought processes psychotic patients may have.
Bipolar disorder
- Olanzapine can be used to control the agitation and anxiety associated with manic phase of bipolar disorder.
- Olanzapine can also be used with other antidepressants, such as, fluoxetine, for management of symptoms during the depressive phase of bipolar disorder.
Panic disorders and dysphoria
- By allaying the fears and calming down agitation, olanzapine can help with providing relief from panic disorders and dysphoric states.
Obsessive-compulsive disorders
- Olanzapine can also help with reducing the anxiety contributing to the obsessive-compulsive behaviors and thus can be used to manage the OCDs.
