Patient/caregiver was educated on cleaning and disinfecting various household surfaces for COVID-19 as follows:
- With household items that kids could easily place into the mouth and contaminate, rinse the surface with water to remove the disinfecting agent and let the surface air dry, after allowing the disinfecting agent on the surface for the required length of time.
- For carpeted floor, doormats, rugs, and drapes, clean these surfaces with appropriate cleaners, as indicated and widely marketed for use on these surfaces. After cleaning is done, you can choose to launder these items as allowed & appropriate.
- Remove the gloves & safely discard them after each cleaning & disinfection. Place all used gloves and other contaminated items in a trash bag that can be securely tied or zipped, before disposing them off along with other household waste.
- After the task is done, do not forget to wash hands thoroughly for 20 seconds with soap & water or a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol in it.
