Patient was educated on causes of deep vein thrombosis as follows:
- Cancers – Various cancers in the body can result in increased thickening of blood, thus resulting in formation of clots and DVT.
- Damage to the blood vessels – Prolonged uncontrolled blood pressure or insertion of any intravenous catheters or PICC lines can result in damage to the inner lining of blood vessels, setting the ground for clot formation and DVT.
- Smoking: By increasing the adhesiveness of platelet cells to one another, smoking increases the risk for clot formation. Also, chronic smoking can damage the inner lining of blood vessels, thus contributing to risk for clot formation.
