Patient was educated on Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH) or vasopressin and its actions as follows:
- ADH or vasopressin is a hormone released by the pituitary gland in the brain.
- This hormone has the following functions in the human body:
- This hormone acts on the renal tubules and helps with reabsorption of water in the kidney.
- By reabsorbing water in the kidneys, this hormone reduces the loss of water from the body and so, result in concentrated urine.
- By retaining water in the body, this hormone helps in prevention of dehydration and symptoms of fluid deficit.
- Vasopressin also causes narrowing of blood vessels and results in elevated blood pressure.
