Patient/caregiver was educated on anemia and causes of anemia as follows:

  1. Anemia is a condition in which, a patient is deficient on healthy red blood cells.
  2. Red blood cells perform the task of carrying oxygen and nutrients to all the living body tissues.
  3. Low red blood cell count can lead to deficient oxygen and nutrient transport to the tissues.
  4. Anemia can be short term or long term, based on the pathology.
  5. Short term anemia can be secondary to any acute blood loss in an accident or surgery. The symptoms can be very acute and the condition is easily reversible with arresting the bleed and giving blood transfusions to the patient.
  6. Long term anemia can be secondary to chronic pathology, such as, chronic iron deficiency, chronic vitamin B12 deficiency, chronic vitamin B6 deficiency, and autoimmune origin with autoantibodies destroying one’s own red blood cells.
