Patient was educated on the administration and side effects of long acting insulins as follows:

  1. Inject long acting insulin at the same time every day, to avoid lags in insulin coverage or stacking up the doses of insulin too close.
  2. Hypoglycemia happens to be the most common side-effect with this medication. The risk for this complication multiplies with the patient not being compliant with the time of administration and stacking up the dose of insulin too close.
  3. Patients can present with dizziness, headache, blurred vision, and loss of consciousness.
  4. Patient can also present with other side effects of insulin injections, such as, pain, redness, or swelling of the skin at the injection site.
