Patient was educated on the administration and side effects of long acting insulins as follows:
- Inject long acting insulin at the same time every day, to avoid lags in insulin coverage or stacking up the doses of insulin too close.
- Hypoglycemia happens to be the most common side-effect with this medication. The risk for this complication multiplies with the patient not being compliant with the time of administration and stacking up the dose of insulin too close.
- Patients can present with dizziness, headache, blurred vision, and loss of consciousness.
- Patient can also present with other side effects of insulin injections, such as, pain, redness, or swelling of the skin at the injection site.
