Patient was educated on non-pitting edema as follows:

1. This is the type of edema, which does not leave any indentation, after applying gentle pressure to the site of swelling with a finger and holding the pressure for 5 seconds.
2. This type of edema is not merely due to fluid accumulation, but also due to accumulation of some proteins that like to keep fluid with them.
3. The accumulation of these proteins, such as, albumin, will attract fluid into these spaces.
4. The deposition of these proteins along with the fluid makes the skin turgid and so, this edema will not show any indentation on pressure.
5. This type of edema is typically seen in cases where the lymphatic drainage is affected, especially in cases of mastectomy or cancer treatment with radiation, and lymph node excision.
