Patient was educated on Non-Heme Iron as follows:

  1. Iron in the human body is available in two forms- Heme Iron and Non-Heme Iron.
  2. Non-Heme Iron
  • Non-heme iron is present is abundance than heme iron.
  • It is present on both meat and plant sources of iron.
  • Non-heme iron although being abundantly available, is difficult to be absorbed in the intestines.
  • Since vegetarian diets are consists of non-heme iron significantly, choice must be made selectively regarding the food items that are very rich in non-heme iron.
