Patient was educated on Neomycin and its mechanism of action as follows:
- Neomycin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the class of Aminoglycoside antibiotics.
- This antibiotic is active against several bacterial infections.
- Neomycin does not act against any viral infections.
- Neomycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis in a wide variety of bacteria.
- These proteins are needed for bacterial division and growth.
- Inhibition of protein synthesis by Neomycin leads to killing of the bacteria, preventing their division and growth and thus, controls the infection.
