Patient was educated on Miralax and its mechanism of action as follows:
- Miralax works on the principle of osmosis, a phenomenon of fluid migration from areas of less solute concentration to more solute concentration.
- Miralax is highly concentrated with polyethylene glycol.
- Miralax tends to osmotically draw water from surrounding tissues into the intestines.
- By drawing more amount of water from the intestines, Miralax prevents the stool from drying up and maintains the stool soft by increasing the fluid content in the stool.
- Soft stools are easier to pass.
