Patient was educated on Metronidazole and its mechanism of action as follows:

  1. Metronidazole is an antibiotic that belongs to the Nitroimidazole class. It fights bacteria in your body.
  2. Metronidazole inhibits the bacterial nucleic acid synthesis and thus, damages the DNA of bacterial cells.
  3. Metronidazole acts typically against anaerobic bacteria, such as, Clostridium and Helicobacter. Anaerobic bacteria survive in the absence of oxygen and presence of oxygen around is detrimental to the survival of such bacteria.
  4. Metronidazole is also active against some parasitic infections, such as, amoebiasis and trichomonas vaginal infections.
