Patient was educated on the precautions to be observed while taking Methocarbamol as follows:

  1. Methocarbamol is mainly metabolized in the liver and the metabolites along with any unmetabolized drug are mainly excreted in the urine. If liver function is deficient, the metabolism of methocarbamol can be compromised. If renal function is deficient, the elimination of methocarbamol can be compromised. In either case, this can lead to increased blood levels of the medication and metabolites for longer periods of time, resulting in increased risk for side-effects and consequent toxicity. So, in individuals with history of compromised liver and/or renal function, methocarbamol must be used with caution and possible multiple dose adjustments be made. Periodical labs could be ordered for monitoring liver and kidney functions and watch for development of any toxicity symptoms with the medication. So, maintain compliance with follow-up physician appointments and any lab draws ordered. Be accommodative to the plan of dose changes to achieve an optimum response and prevent development of any undesired side-effects.
  2. If you miss a dose, try taking it at the earliest notice of noncompliance. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the dose scheduled. Do not take an extra dose to try making up for the missed dose, which can result in toxicity. Notify your doctor and other health care personnel regarding your dose noncompliance.
  3. Methocarbamol could potentially interact with a lot of other medications and precipitate serious reactions. If you are being newly started on methocarbamol, discuss with your physician regarding all your current medications and their safety with methocarbamol. Also, notify your physician regarding any current methocarbamol intake, if you are being started on any new medications and discuss their safety with methocarbamol.
