Patient/caregiver was educated on therapeutic uses of metaxalone as follows:

Metaxalone is used for relieving the muscle pain and spasms caused by various musculoskeletal disorders.

Brain and spinal cord injury

• Diffuse muscle rigidity and spasms happen to be part of conditions causing brain and spinal cord injury.
• This rigidity and spasms can lead to pain and discomfort, thus limiting range of motion in the extremities.
• Metaxalone by relieving the spasms, helps with easing the discomfort and pain, thus helping to improve the range of motion in the extremities.

Multiple sclerosis

• Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disorder in which individuals develop antibodies against their myelin, which is a covering along the nerves, helping with conduction of the impulse/signal along the nerve.
• These antibodies damage the myelin along the nerves, which results in difficulty in the conduction of the impulse along the nerve.
• This block in impulse conduction can result in rigidity and spasms, contributing to the pain and discomfort.
• Metaxalone by relieving the rigidity, helps with easing the discomfort and pain of spasms.
