Patient/caregiver was educated on the side-effects of using Orphenadrine as follows:
General allergic reactions
- Orphenadrine use can result in general allergic reactions, such as, skin rashes, hives, and itching.
- Some patients can present with symptoms of severe allergic and anaphylactic response with orphenadrine, such as, difficulty breathing, swelling of face, lips, throat, and tongue, with consequent difficulty breathing. Seek emergency medical help for such findings, especially with difficulty breathing, for any appropriate measures to be considered.
Genitourinary side-effects
- Orphenadrine can also induce relaxation of bladder with retention of urine and difficulty emptying the bladder. Retention of urine in the bladder can increase the risk for urinary tract infections. Individuals with history of retention of urine and frequent urinary tract infections must be aware of this side-effect of orphenadrine.
Withdrawal
- Individuals on sudden withdrawal from orphenadrine, especially after prolonged use or use in high doses, can present with mild unpleasant withdrawal symptoms, such as, listlessness, lack of energy, appetite changes, mood changes, rebound muscle stiffness, muscle spasms, runny nose, tearing of eyes, excessive nausea & salivation, stomach cramps, and sweating. Discontinuation on orphenadrine use must be slow and gradual, using tapering doses, and only on your physician recommendation.
