Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking dantrium as follows:

  1. Dantrium administered into the vein can result in inflammation of the vein with redness and swelling of the site. Individuals could experience intense pain and tenderness at the site of injection. In severe cases, dantrium administered as a shot can result in necrosis of body tissue at the site of injection. Watch for signs and symptoms of inflammation at the site of injection. Report any uncontrolled pain, tenderness, and worsening discoloration at the injection site to your physician for appropriate recommendation.
  2. Your physician could change the dose of dantrium, based on the response you show, relief obtained, and side-effects presented with. So, maintain compliance with follow-up physician appointments and be accommodative to the plan of dose changes, until you show an optimum response.
  3. If you miss a dose, try taking it at the earliest notice of noncompliance. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the dose scheduled. Do not take an extra dose to try making up for the missed dose, which can result in toxicity. Notify your doctor and other health care personnel regarding your dose noncompliance.
  4. Dantrium could take some time to fairly adjust to your body, before any optimal relief with muscle spasms and easing of side-effects is experienced. So, do not discontinue taking the medication without your physician’s consult, as you failed to see the desired result immediately after taking the medication.
